Piggyback
Children love to ride piggyback, but doing it for a whole hiking tour is tiring for parents. In stable child carriers, the kids get a fantastic view, the parents have their hands free, the loads are well-attached and distributed and the carriers often have a great deal of storage space.
In its latest issue, Active Woman magazine tested child carriers including the Watchtower Supreme from Jack Wolfskin. One major selling point for this model is the fact that lifting the child into it is particularly easy.
Assessment
The carrier is suitable for children who can already sit upright and are no taller than 105cm. The child can put its feet in the foot pockets. The sun/rain hood is integrated and is stowed behind the central zip fastener. A further extra is the headrest, which can be individually adjusted with Velcro.
The adjustment straps for seat height (red/black webbing) and the safety straps (grey webbing) are stowed in the upper zipped pocket nearest the back. The Ergoform Pro suspension system has three different settings (S, M, L) which can be adjusted with Velcro and is suitable for both parents.
Conclusion:
The Watchtower Supreme is very sturdy, and as such is a little heavier than comparable models.
The seat is not combined with the stowage space and thus is easily adjustable.
A great feature is that when the child is placed in the carrier, the fasteners can be opened completely on the left and right.
The advantage of the straps stowed in the zipped pocket is that they do not dangle.
The excellent headrest is attached with Velcro and made from a comfortably soft material.
There is a comfortable back piece for the carrier and numerous pockets.
Disadvantage: the system is a little complicated to adjust.
