GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Light, extremely durable nylon, used in our rucksacks.

When viewed in cross-section, it has prominent projections resembling nail heads. In the event of abrasion, the nail heads protect the material underneath.

NAILHEAD is used in different strengths (Denier) on the pack and base sections of a rucksack, depending on what a rucksack is to be used for.

A very warm, deep-pile, 100-weight fleece with a check pattern. This fabric is used for outdoor shirts.

A very light, particularly breathable, very warm fleece with HIGHLOFT structure. The use of 150-weight fleece and a mesh material as a base makes this fleece incredibly light. The new structure also makes the fabric more compactable and breathable.

A very lightweight highloft fleece with a waffle structure for reduced weight and pack size.

A warm polyester fleece (290g/m²) with differently structured inner and outer surfaces. The deep pile inner surface delivers optimal heat retention performance, while the outer surface has a very tight weave and is resistant to pilling.

The fleece is highly breathable, fast drying and easy to clean. It has the same thermal retention properties as NANUK 200, but is more durable.

The high loft construction of this soft and supple fleece gives it exceptional heat retention characteristics. The deep pile material traps more insulating air than a standard velour fleece.

NANUK 200 HIGHLOFT is warmer than regular NANUK 200, but has more or less the same weight.

This fleece is slightly lighter than our tried and tested NANUK 200 SILKLOFT fleece. Thanks to its fine microfibres, it is even more silky and smooth to the touch.

A deep pile polyester fleece with a velour (short pile) structure on both sides for excellent heat retention. It is a fleece material for low temperatures and stop-and-go activities on cold days.

The fleece is soft and fluffy to the touch. In spite of its larger volume, it can be easily compressed and packed away. NANUK 300 is also durable, easy to clean and fast drying.

The warmest NANUK fleece in the entire range. The '300' (360g/m²) quality and dual-sided high loft structure delivers outstanding heat retention with significantly less weight and bulk than a conventional fleece fabric with a comparable insulation rating.

The polyester fleece is highly breathable, easy to clean and dries fast. In spite of its incredible warmth, the high loft construction means it still has a relatively compact pack size.

A technical, high-performance fleece (270g/m²), designed for sports wear. The fleece has two-way stretch properties for unimpaired freedom of movement and incorporates different surface structures and materials on the inner and outer surfaces.

A high-pile polyester fleece inside provides good heat retention and moisture management properties to keep you feeling dry when things get sweaty, while the outer consists of a dense weave, windproof and abrasion resistant polyester jersey over which body moisture can readily evaporate.

Body-hugging garments in NANUK DYNAMIC are highly suitable as next-to-skin wear in a technical layering system. They require little care and maintenance and dry very quickly.

A generic term used to describe NANUK fleece materials with a structured outer surface, e.g. lambswool style or ribbed, etc.

A windproof, very warm and still comparatively lightweight fleece material. The outer side is made of a highly durable micro velour fleece and the inner side is made of fleece with a high loft construction.

NANUK WINDRESISTANT HIGHLOFT has the same volume as NANUK 200, but its thermal retention characteristics are comparable to NANUK 300 thanks to its windproof properties.

Natural rubber made from latex exhibits high tensile strength and elasticity, retains its flexibility when cold and has outstanding dynamic properties - a combination of characteristics that can not be achieved by synthetic elastomers.

The rubber used in our FOOTWEAR product sector is also totally waterproof and not prone to ageing or abrasion.

A functional material with a cotton outer surface and a polyester contact surface.

The material combines the natural feel and look of cotton with active moisture management and rapid drying performance.

A detail on our rucksacks and bags for everyday use. A special padded Notebook sleeve is included.

Certain bags also contain a NOTEBOOK LIFTER, which can be used to lift the notebook out of the bag.

A lightweight, waterproof nylon fabric with a polyurethane (PU) coating made out 70 Denier yarns. It is used in tents and umbrellas

An extraordinarily robust, dense-weave, 500 denier, canvas-style polyamide fabric with a cotton-like feel and a durable water repellent (DWR) coating. Dirt-resistant and fast drying.

Used predominantly for robust travel and trekking apparel.

Weighing just 50g/m2, this dense weave polyamide fabric incorporates a matrix of rip stop threads.

Used as an inner cabin fabric for light weight tents, it provides the ideal combination of weight, durability, (water) drop repellence and breathability.

A very robust nylon fabric with a cotton-like texture. The taslanized (textured) yarns make it more hard wearing and give it a textile-like feel.
