GLOSSARY OF TERMS

A flat ‘secret’ pocket is often integrated into JACK WOLFSKIN apparel.
There are different types of pocket for different clothing. Many of our weather protection jackets are fitted with a SECRET POCKET.

This special inside pocket lies protected from weather inside the jacket, but accessible from the outside at chest height via the double cover over the front zip.

The pocket is often called a ‘Napoleon pocket’ as using it resembles the French general's famous gesture. A flat format SECRET POCKET is integrated into the side seam or pocket on skirts or trousers for keys or coins. At least half of the opening is covered by the pocket in front of it

A fluffy thermal lining material consisting of 50% polyester and 50% acrylic. The very warm, quick drying material has a lambswool type fleece structure and is used as a lining.

A special detail on our footwear, designed to cushion the strike action and taking the form of softer shock absorbing areas in the midsole. Depending on the model, these consist either of EVA or PU. The SHOCK ABSORB SYSTEM PLUS components are larger than the standard version and are also visible.

A lightweight flysheet fabric, designed for extreme use.

The tough 40 D High Tenacity Nylon RipStop fabric has a double coating of silicon on each side. The fabric is thus durably waterproof and has outstanding tensile strength and tear strength in addition to its super-light weight. Weight: 57 g/m²; tear strength: 16.3 kg in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13937-4; tensile strength: 50KG (DIN EN ISO 1421).

Silk is a natural fibre which has both cooling and warming properties. It can also absorb up to a third of its weight in water. We use silk to make our high-quality sleeping bag liners.

Elongated stretch cuffs, with or without a thumb hole, for protection againgst spindrift and wind penetration.

A sports-styled winter hiking sole with damping elements at the ball and heel. Thanks to its 5-mm diamond-shaped tread, the rubber outsole ensures a secure, non-slip grip in snowy conditions. The removable EVA insole increases cushioning performance.

A silky-soft lining fabric made from polyester taffeta. The garment slips on easily over lower layers in the clothing system,such as a fleece, without bunching.

The fabric consists of matt finish, lightly textured microfibres and warms up faster than a conventional nylon taffeta lining with its smooth, cool surface.
Used predominantly as a sleeve lining in our fleece jackets and weather protective jackets.

A functional, checked shirt fabric with active moisture management thanks to its Q.M.C. fibres.

The storm collar protects the lower half of the face. The width is adjustable and the elastic inserts provide plenty of space für clothing when layering, including a scarf, balaclava or similar.

High tearstrength and low weight are the key characteristics of this windproof material. The windproofing comes from the fabric’s particularly tight weave and the tearstrength from ripstop reinforcement threads. It is also very breathable.

A totally windproof, extremely breathable, hard wearing microfibre fabric with a natural, cotton-like texture. The face fabric also benefits from a water repellent finish.

The windproof spec results from the combination of microfibre yarns. This special TUSSOR weave consists of very fine grade warp yarns and coarser weft yarns and produces a more densely woven structure, which is impervious to wind yet allows warm, moisture-laden air to escape readily though the fabric.

Since the reverse side is not coated, the fabric is exceptionally breathable.

A water-repellent, active velour fleece is used to form the inner and outer layers of this 3-layer laminate. A layer of the elastic STORMLOCK membrane is incorporated in between them, making the material completely windproof.

The outstanding characteristic of this completely windproof, soft and supple fleece laminate is its extremely high thermal retention. This is due to the soft and fluffy, long pile fleece that is laminated either side of the STORMLOCK membrane. The longer hairs in this type of fleece trap more insulating warm air. The material is also lightweight and compressible.

An extremely lightweight and tear resistant 2-layer laminate. This STORMLOCK version is completely windproof, water repellent and breathable. It gets its tearstrength from the ripstop reinforcement threads which are interwoven into the fabric at intervals.

The silky-soft SMOOTHLIGHT face fabric is the killer app of this extremely water repellent, totally windproof and breathable variation on the STORMLOCK HYPROOF theme.

The material is “non rustle” and the soft feel provides superb wear comfort.

Bi-elastic, windproof and breathable lining laminate that is used e.g. as wind protection in soft shells.

With its shell fabric of taslanized yarns, this STORMLOCK material is not only windproof, extremely water-repellent, and breathable but also robust and cotton-like to the touch. The elastane content also ensures good freedom of movement.

A windproof, extremely water-repellent thermal lining.

A windproof, water-repellent SOFTSHELL laminate with a macroporous membrane that makes it 50 % more breathable than the standard STORMLOCK SOFTSHELL.

The shell fabric is a dual-stretch nylon fabric with a robust RIPSTOP structure. Both its inner layer of warming, middle-pile fleece and its weight-saving "waffle" structure ensure high heat retention.

A 3-layer laminate for soft shells that is completely windproof and extremely water repellent. It also has outstanding breathability and ensures good freedom of movement, thanks to the elastic nature of the material.

A lightweight, windproof, dual stretch 3-layer laminate, which utilises knitted fabrics on both the outer and reverse sides to give the appearance of a sweatshirt fabric.

The more voluminous polyester knit on the reverse side provides limited heat retention, while the water repellent face fabric copes well with light showers.

The good moisture vapour transmission spec and the moisture management function of the fabric on the reverse side work together to deliver a high level of climate comfort.

A completely windproof and extremely water repellent 3-ply laminate. It is highly breathable and has kinetic stretch properties. Microfleece on the inside provides moderate heat retention and its special waffle structure saves weight and gives a smaller pack size.

This zip-detachable hood features a specially stiffened peak. It provides more weather protection than the BASIC HOOD.

The volume and field of vision can be adjusted by draw cords with one hand.

A soft, hard-wearing, easy-care, functional material made of nylon yarns that is water repellent on the outside.
This fabric offers a UV protection rating of 40+ (meets AS/NZS 4399: 1996 standard), which means that only 1/40 of all damaging UV A and UV B rays can pass through the fabric; 97.5 % of the rays are filtered.

The protection comes from the fibres themselves and is not the result of any additional fabric treatment. This means that the UV protection is permanent and not affected by perspiration or water.

The ACS Tight system (ACS = Air Comfort System) is featured on our rucksacks designed for high octane activities. It ensures that the rucksack remains close to the body while allowing excellent freedom of movement.

The materials used are moisture and air permeable.A vertical channel allows warm, moist air produced by the body to escape upwards and keeps contact surfaces to a minimum.

Two flexible aluminium ribs help the pack retain its shape and flexible plates located beneath the back pad prevent hard items pressing through.

The ERGOFORM PRO carry system is lightweight, flexible and provides greater freedom of movement.All its components are anatomically designed. The angle of the waist belt can be adjusted for an individual fit and the shoulder harness anchor point can be easily fixed in the optimum position using the Velcro tabs on the back of the pack.

The ERGOFORM PRO system is available in men's and women's models – with different back lengths and geometry on the waist belts and shoulder straps.Further features:

- Two anatomically shaped duraluminium rods deliver superb load stability, ensure that the pack fits the shape of your back and transfer weight to the waist.
- The bulk of the load is taken by the lavishly padded waist belt.
- The shoulder harness anchor point can be easily fixed in the optimum position using the Velcro tabs on the tape ladder at the back of the pack.
- The waist belt transfers weight by lateral pressure on the pelvic bone.

The core components of the SNUGGLE UP system are the extra wide shoulder straps, padded shoulder yoke and the comfortable and robust EV foam back-contact surfaces.

The ergonomic construction distributes load over a larger surface area than conventional shoulder strap designs. The pack always sits perfectly and pressure points on the shoulders are kept to a minimum.

Our carry system specially designed for heavy loads. The V-TRANSITION system provides optimised direct load transfer to the waist belt.

Two ergonomically V-shaped duraluminium rods are directly anchored in a flexible lumbar plate, which is in turn connected to the padded waist belt. This ensures that the load is efficiently and comfortably distributed onto the hips.

The back plates also provide additional stabilityand the extensive back padding ensures excellent ventilation. The flexible waist belt and shoulder straps guarantee perfect freedom of movement even when carrying heavier loads.

The fully adjustable back length indicator guarantees a perfect fit.
