TESTED

Yellowstone II

The editors of outdoor tested nine of the best two-person dome tents (July ’09 issue). Dome tents are generally not particularly light, but are extremely versatile and do not require much ground space.

The testing lasted over 100 hours and took place in front of wind machines as well as in the field on tour. Storm stability, waterproofing (outer tent and base) and comfort features (effectiveness of ventilation, room inside the inner tent, brightness etc.) were all under the microscope.

Disadvantages of the YELLOWSTONE II:

  • low entrance
  • the third-highest weight (3700g)
  • the fixed frame clips for erecting and dismantling

Features which impressed were:

  • weather-resistance
  • the spacious, high and bright inner tent
  • windows and ventilation
  • the huge bell
  • the neat workmanship
  • the price

The result: "Good-value and comfortable tent which will not let you down, even in tough conditions”. It holds off moisture reliably from above and below, and “stands firm in winds of up to 80 km/h”. In addition, it is “completely suitable for winter”.

This is why the YELLOWSTONE II received the test verdict “good” and the “outdoor purchase tip”.
