At the Girls’ Academy in Pader, it is predominately young single mothers who are trained. Their position in Ugandan society is particularly difficult and the school allows them to live on site with their children.
This allows many young women to obtain a professional qualification. At the Girls’ Academy, subjects including baking, sewing and knitting are taught and then products made are then sold locally.
There is already an existing market for these goods, easing the students’ transition into independence, safe in the knowledge that there is sufficient demand for their products.
After successful completion of their course, the programme’s participants should therefore then be able to enjoy a simple, self-sufficient way of live. The talented among them could make the leap to a state school and even complete a certificate of higher education. After all, the training done by Rebound in local schools has been recognised.
The first small steps have been taken, and what we need now is perseverance. This is why we are asking all donors and anyone who has yet to make a donation for help. We believe this project has the means to offer aid to those who need help, but we urgently need support and it is only your donations that can increase the number of people that the Rebound project can help.
Every donation counts – please help today.
