Our sleeping bags are well designed down to the smallest detail and boast plenty of features to optimise cold protection. They come in various shapes with numerous insulation levels and two types of filling – down and sythetic fibre. They're manufactured in such a way as to prevent thermal bridges. Thanks to the THERMOZONE technology, the parts of the body that are most sensitive to the cold such as the head, feet and torso are further protected by additional insulation. In addition to the standard models, which are generally available in two lengths, we also offer special WOMEN models, which are designed with the female anatomy and heat requirements in mind.

We use the temperature scale based on the EN 13537 European standard as a point of reference. The desired night-time temperature should fall within the comfort zone (T comf) of the sleeping bag. You can find detailed information in our FAQ under temperature scale.

20. Jan 2012
Adventure Travel Magazine rates the Mountain Sunrise sleeping bag the ‘Best in Test’.

Can you recommend a sleeping bag for allergy sufferers?

This depends entirely on the type of allergy. For those who are allergic to dust mites or pollen, we would recommend a synthetic fibre sleeping bag, since the care and maintenance procedures are simpler and they can be washed more frequently.

How do men’s and women’s models of sleeping bag differ?

JACK WOLFSKIN offers a comprehensive range of sleeping bags in both different lengths and gender-specific designs, as only a "well-fitting" sleeping bag can function to its full insulation specification.

Why do I feel cold in my sleeping bag even though it is recommended for lower temperatures?

Temperature sensitivity is subjective. It is dependent on many different factors (nutrition, training, the state of your health, body size, altitude, climatic conditions,

What do the sleeping bag temperature ratings mean?

The upper temperature limit (T max) defines the highest temperature at which the user can sleep comfortably without sweating profusely.

How reliable are the temperature ratings for sleeping bags?

The ratings are generally very reliable. Since January 1st 2005, all sleeping bags have been categorised in accordance with European Standard EN13 537.

How is the sleeping bag fill constructed/ attached?

The synthetic fibre quilted fills used in JACK WOLFSKIN sleeping bags are sewn to the sides and lining only in order to eliminate cold spots at critical areas like the seams.

What are the differences between down and synthetic fibre sleeping bags?

Down sleeping bags: virtually unbeatable warmth-to-weight performance; Synthetic fibre sleeping bags: heavier than down but less sensitive and easier care and maintenance

DOWN

Natural down is still virtually unbeatable in terms of warmth-to-weight ratio. All the samples tested have boasted a fill power, which is ultimately the measure of insulation, of over 700 cuin and thus feature in the absolute top category. The complex construction with trapezoid, vertical and sidewall fill chambers promotes optimal distribution of the down and prevents thermal bridges. Our products differ only in the level of heat retention; the materials used are always the same.

90/10 GREY GOOSE DOWN, 700+cuin: We use this finest quality goose down with a mix of 90% down and 10% feather (90/10) in our sleeping bags in particular. It has an outstanding fill power of over 700 cuin, which we combine with a lightweight shell fabric so that the down can achieve its full lofting capacity.

TIP: Down sleeping bags are extremely light but lose heat retention when damp. We recommend them for tours on which there's plenty of opportunity to allow them to air and dry. After tours, down sleeping bags should be stored unzipped.

MICROGUARD

Our synthetic loose fibrefill insulations are made from two types of fibre: spiral fibres ensure permanent, high loft, whilst fine microfibres are excellent at storing heat. The synthetic fibrefill insulation retains a majority of its heat retention even when damp. Synthetic fibre sleeping bags are therefore ideal in damp environments, on longer trekking tours and when there's little time to air the sleeping bag. They're also easier to wash.

MICROGUARD is a synthetic sleeping bag interlining material characterised by its super-soft feel and very compact pack size.

It consists of two types of synthetic fibres:
1. Spiral fibres for lasting stability and loft (MICRO).
2. Ultra-thin hollow fibres, which trap plenty of air and thus guarantee effective insuulation (GUARD).

MICROGUARD SILVER

Our synthetic loose fibrefill insulations are made from two types of fibre: spiral fibres ensure permanent, high loft, whilst fine microfibres are excellent at storing heat. The synthetic fibrefill insulation retains a majority of its heat retention even when damp. Synthetic fibre sleeping bags are therefore ideal in damp environments, on longer trekking tours and when there's little time to air the sleeping bag. They're also easier to wash.

MICROGUARD SILVER is a synthetic sleeping bag interlining material characterised by its super-soft feel, very compact pack size and very rapid warm-up performance.

It consists of two types of synthetic fibres:
1. Spiral fibres for lasting stability and loft (MICRO).
2. Ultra-thin hollow fibres, which trap plenty of air and thus guarantee effective insuulation (GUARD).
3. An additional component is a thin layer of fleece fabric with embedded metallic particles. This reduces the warm-up time, provides longer lasting warmth and reflects back some of the body heat (SILVER).
