Along the way, he is raising funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation to help restore sight and improve access to eye care. Before embarking on his round-the-world trek, Alex completed iconic routes including the Colorado Trail and Nepal's Great Himalaya Trail.

As the founder of THRU-HIKING.com and European Trail Days, Elmar Teegelbeckers is focused on bringing the global thru-hiking community together. Through online platforms, events, trail stories and collaborations with hikers and trail organizations around the world, he works to make long-distance hiking more connected, accessible and inspiring. He also writes books about long-distance hiking, sharing trail experiences, practical knowledge and inspiration with a wider audience. Alongside building the community and writing about it, Elmar spends as much time as possible on the trail himself. From high-altitude treks in Nepal and crossings of the Alps and Dolomites to coastal paths and island traverses across Europe and beyond, his own adventures form the foundation of his work and his passion for thru-hiking.
