ZDHC – The route to clean and sustainable production
Committed to manufacturing with zero hazardous chemicals in line with ZDHC. “Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals” (ZDHC) is the name of an initiative of multinational textile and footwear manufacturers. We signed up to it in 2012 as the first and so far the only company in the outdoor sector.

Checking for hazardous substances in the production chain
No dangerous chemicals! ZDHC MRSL – our list of banned substances. “MRSL” stands for “Manufacturing Restricted Substances List” and refers to a catalogue of chemicals that are prohibited, or that may not exceed strict concentration limits during the production process.

Checking finished products for hazardous substances
Our Green Book guarantees products that have been checked for hazardous substances. In addition to the ZDHC MRSL, we have our own “Restricted Substances List” (RSL) here at Jack Wolfskin. This governs the materials in our finished products, including those in additional components such as buttons and zips.

Eco-friendly use of packaging material
We avoid packaging waste wherever possible. It is not possible to completely eliminate protective packaging for our products, such as that used when they are transported in containers. We have, however, taken a raft of measures to reduce packaging waste wherever possible.

100% green electricity
We use 100% green electricity, some of which we generate ourselves. In addition to reducing our electricity consumption, we also focus on the use of renewable energy. Since 2012, we have converted the power supply at all Jack Wolfskin sites in Germany, Austria and Switzerland fully to green electricity. We even generate some of this energy ourselves, using photovoltaic installations at our sites in Idstein and Neu-Wulmstorf.

Green travel
We pay heed to green travel – even regarding business travel. Protecting the environment also means a lot to us even when it comes to business travel, whether short or long-distance travel. In concrete terms, this means that Jack Wolfskin staff are very much encouraged to take the train for all business travel within Germany and to the neighbouring countries.

Sustainable shopfitting
Fixtures and fittings as well as lighting in our stores are environmentally friendly. When it comes to fitting out stores, we also look to focus on sustainability and completely avoid using PVC. We focus on choosing long-lasting natural materials such as locally sourced wood as well as elements that can be recycled so they hardly make an impact on the environment. It is also important that the construction elements can be reused. Moreover, we have introduced an energy-saving lighting concept.
