Alexander Campbell

Thru-hiker, round-the-world hiker, fund-raiser for the Fred Hollows Foundation

Alexander is on an exceptional mission: on 12 February 2023, he embarked on a four-year journey around the world on foot. This roughly 40,000 kilometre journey will take him through 30 countries and four continents. He will be self-sufficient, only taking with him things that fit into his pack. En route, he will be collecting donations for the Fred Hollows Foundation to help people who have lost their sight unnecessarily.

But this is not Alexander’s first major adventure. He has already done the Colorado Trail (800 km) and the entire Great Himalaya Trail in Nepal (1,600 km). He most recently travelled 3,750 kilometres on foot from Flinders Ranges back to Sydney.

Apart from travelling along trails, Alexander studied anthropology and archaeology at the University of Sydney, gaining top grades with a dissertation on the subject of the challenges facing long-distance hikers on their return to “normal” life.

At 27, Alexander is now ready to spend the next few years hiking around the world – step by step, country by country, adventure upon adventure.
